Shelter du Moucherotte

Abri du Moucherotte sits at 1836m on the Moucherotte plateau, a limestone massif east of Grenoble in Isère. The hut is reached via the GR91 trail from Engins (1h 15min) or from Lans-en-Vercors (1h 30min). Both routes traverse open pasture and scattered woodland typical of the Vercors. Winter access is possible but requires experience with snow and ice.
The shelter is a simple refuge operated by the FFCAM, offering basic dormitory accommodation for around 30 people. There is no electricity or running water; water comes from a spring. Meals are not provided, so bring your own food and cooking fuel. The hut serves as a useful base for exploring the Moucherotte plateau, particularly for winter mountaineering, ski touring, and summer hiking circuits. The building remains open year-round, though conditions above 1800m are alpine—expect snow from November through April.
Book through the FFCAM Grenoble section directly or contact the caretaker in advance, especially for winter stays. Summer weekends and school holidays fill quickly. Winter visits should be arranged well ahead, as the hut's caretaker may not be permanently resident. Bring a sleeping bag and mat; blankets are not guaranteed. Water collection and waste management are your responsibility.
