Chalet du Bout

Chalet du Bout sits at 1,398m in the Chaîne de Belledonne, east of Grenoble. The standard approach takes 2.5 hours from the Pra Layat trailhead, climbing steadily through forest and meadow. The route is well-marked and straightforward. Winter access requires snowshoes or skis depending on conditions. The hut serves as a base for summer hiking across the Belledonne range and winter ski touring in the area.

The chalet operates year-round and has capacity for around 40 people in dormitory rooms. The FFCAM-affiliated hut serves evening meals and breakfast, with packed lunches available on request. The kitchen supplies simple but adequate meals. Amenities include heating, running water, and basic toilet facilities. The hut lacks electricity. Staff are present during summer and at weekends year-round; call ahead if visiting mid-week in winter. Summer nights can fill, especially in July and August.
