Refuge de Gève

Refuge de Gève sits at 1,291m in the Chartreuse massif, east of Grenoble. The hut anchors a network of day hikes through limestone terrain and beech forest. Most visitors approach from the Charmant Som parking area on the D512, a 90-minute walk gaining 400m. The route follows a clear path through the Gorges du Guiers Mort before climbing more steeply to the refuge. In winter, access depends on snow conditions and avalanche risk; check locally before planning.
The refuge operates year-round and accommodates 40 people in dormitory beds. The guardian serves simple meals—soups, pasta, local cheeses—and hot drinks. You can order dinner when you book. Water comes from a spring. The hut runs on a tight budget with minimal facilities: basic toilets, no shower. It's popular with families and weekend groups doing moderate circuits in the Chartreuse, and hikers using it as a base for approaches to Charmant Som (1,867m) or Mont Saint-Michel (1,466m).
Book directly by email or phone; the refuge fills most weekends year-round, especially spring and autumn. Email contact is essential—response times vary, so contact well ahead. For July and August, book 3–4 weeks in advance. Outside peak seasons, a few days' notice usually works. The hut is run by volunteers, so flexibility helps.
