Baita Sociale A San Giacomo

Baita Sociale A San Giacomo sits at 1,370m in the Val di Rhêmes, a side valley deep in Parc National de la Vanoise. The hut is accessible from the village of Rhêmes-Notre-Dame via a hiking trail that takes 2–2.5 hours. In winter, access depends on snow conditions; the road into Val di Rhêmes closes seasonally. Most hikers approach from the south, using the hut as a base for climbs of Mont Emilius (3,559m) or traverses toward the Gran Paradiso massif.
The hut operates year-round and has 20 beds split across 4 private rooms plus dormitory space. The CAI manages the building with traditional mountain hospitality—expect hearty meals and basic but functional facilities. Water comes from mountain sources. Heating is reliable in winter. The hut serves climbers and walkers tackling moderate to Alpine routes; it's not a luxury refuge, but it's solid and well-placed for the terrain.
Book by email directly with the hut. Summer weekends and July–August fill several weeks ahead, especially during good weather windows when Mont Emilius sees traffic. Weekend slots in June and September are easier to secure. Email early and specify your required dates, party size, and any dietary needs. The hut prefers direct contact over third-party booking sites.
