About

Bivacco Muggia-Glarey sits at 2,850m on the border between the Parc National des Écrins and Italy, on the Glarey glacier approach. Access is from Vallée de la Clarée via Granges de la Forclaz (roughly 5–6 hours' walking). This is a serious approach in good conditions; loose scree and glacier travel demand experience and proper equipment. Summer is the only viable season. The hut serves mountaineers tackling peaks on the Chabrières massif and routes toward Monte Viso.

The bivacco is a small, basic refuge. It has 10 beds total across simple dormitory spaces. There is no guardian, no meals service, and no heating or hot water. You bring a stove and cook your own food. Water comes from snowmelt or the glacier nearby—filter or treat it. The hut is open summer only, typically June through September depending on snow conditions. Check access before you leave.

This is a self-service bivacco. Book nothing; the hut operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Bring sleeping bag, mat, food, fuel, and a headtorch. Conditions change fast at this elevation. Verify glacier conditions and weather with local guides or the FFCAM office in Briançon before you commit to the approach. Solo visitors should consider hiring a mountain guide.
