Cabin de Chanrion

Cabane de Chanrion sits at 2,462m in the Valais Alps, above the Mauvoisin dam and accessible only on foot. Reach it from Le Châble (1,200m) via the Mauvoisin valley in 5–6 hours, or from Fionnay in 4–5 hours. The hut marks the start of routes toward Mont-Collon (3,637m) and Col de Tsaconnaz, and sits on the approach to the Glacier de Chanrion. The trail is well-marked but steep in sections; scrambling gear is useful for some terrain variants.
The cabin holds 55 beds in mixed and private dormitories. The guardian serves dinner and breakfast from June through September. Water comes directly from the glacial stream. Basic WiFi is available, making it suitable for those managing longer trips. Toilets and a small washroom handle the capacity well. The hut operates summer-only, typically mid-June to mid-September, with unstaffed access outside these dates.
Book directly by email or phone at least four weeks ahead, especially for July and August when the hut fills quickly. The approach via Mauvoisin dam road means you'll need transport to the trailhead; parking is limited, so plan transport carefully. Solo hikers and smaller groups can usually find space mid-week outside July–August. Contact the hut directly for current opening dates and any weather-related closures.
