Chalet Communal de Pierre Larron

Chalet Communal de Pierre Larron sits at 1754m in the Vanoise massif, accessed from the village of Champagny-en-Vanoise. The approach takes 2.5 to 3 hours on a well-marked trail that climbs steadily through forest and alpine meadow. The hut serves as a base for traverses into Parc National de la Vanoise and routes toward the higher peaks of the Tarentaise region. It's equally useful as a waypoint on multi-day treks linking the Maurienne and Tarentaise valleys.
The chalet is a simple, solidly-built refuge run by volunteers from the local commune. It sleeps around 30 people in dormitory accommodation and provides hot meals in the evening and packed lunches on request. Water comes from a spring nearby. The hut operates year-round but is most reliable from June through September when the warden is present full-time. Winter visits require advance notice and self-sufficiency. Facilities are basic: no electricity or heating beyond the kitchen stove, composting toilets, and cold-water wash basins.

July and August fill quickly; book at least 4 weeks ahead for these months. Outside summer, phone ahead to confirm availability and conditions. Payment is cash only.
