Dortoir Alpe Baravex

Dortoir Alpe Baravex sits at 1917m in the Chaîne de Belledonne, on the Alpe Baravex plateau. The hut lies 2.5 hours' walk from the roadhead at Barrage de Monteynard. Start from the car park near the dam and follow the marked trail through forests and meadows, gaining roughly 600m. The route is straightforward hiking with no technical difficulty. Summer access is most practical; winter snow closes the higher sections.

The dortoir is a simple mountain shelter operated by the local hiking community. Capacity is around 12 beds in shared dormitory rooms. Meals are not provided—bring your own food and cook at the hut. Water is available on site. The dortoir has basic heating and a communal room, though facilities are minimal compared to staffed refuges. It's open year-round but most useful in summer and early autumn for hiking in the Belledonne range. Winter visits require experience and proper equipment.

This is a self-service shelter suitable for experienced mountain users comfortable with basic conditions. Book ahead with FFCAM or check locally with the Belledonne hiking clubs before setting out, as availability and access conditions vary. The hut works best as a base for ridge traverses and peak ascents in the Chaîne de Belledonne rather than a destination in itself.
