Rifugio Letey-Champillon

Rifugio Letey-Champillon sits at 2,465m on the border between Valle d'Aosta and Haute-Savoie, in the Gran Paradiso massif. The hut stands above Champillon village in the Vallée de Gressoney. Access from the south takes 3–4 hours from Pont-d'Ayas (1,670m) via a well-marked trail through alpine meadows and rocky terrain. From the north, approach from Champillon (1,630m) in 2.5–3 hours. Both routes involve sustained elevation gain on maintained footpaths. The hut serves as a base for peaks in the Gran Paradiso range and sits within the Parco Nazionale del Gran Paradiso.
The rifugio holds 32 beds in shared rooms. The guardian provides half-board meals: dinner and breakfast included with overnight stays. A small bar serves hot drinks and snacks. Water comes from natural sources. The hut typically opens from June to September, depending on snow conditions. Winter closure is standard. Phone ahead before arriving to confirm opening dates and current conditions, as spring weather can delay access. The hut operates as a staffed refuge with basic facilities suited to mountain climbers and trekkers.
