Hörnlihütte

The Hörnlihütte sits at 3,260m on the northeast ridge of the Matterhorn. Most parties approach from Schwarzsee via the well-marked path, a 2-hour push that gains 650m elevation and is steep but straightforward. The hut serves as the standard base for the Hörnli Ridge, the most frequently climbed route on the mountain, and for ski touring in the region when conditions allow. Winter access is possible but requires winter mountaineering skills and avalanche awareness.
The SAC-managed hut has 120 beds spread across multiple dormitory rooms. Meals are substantial—dinner and breakfast are included with overnight stays and fuel serious climbers for early summits. Fresh drinking water is available on-site. The hut operates year-round, though winter sees reduced staffing and capacity. The atmosphere is functional and crowded during peak season; expect shared sleeping arrangements and line-ups for dinner. Views from the terrace span the Valais and into Italy on clear days.
Book directly with the hut by phone or email as early as possible. July and August demand rooms weeks in advance. June and September are less hectic but still popular. The hut often reaches capacity on weekends year-round. Confirm your arrival time when booking—they hold beds until early evening.
