Schönbielhütte SAC

Schönbielhütte stands at 2,694m on the border between the Valais and Uri cantons, accessible from multiple valleys. From the north, approach via the Gotthard massif; from the south, the route crosses from Valais through high alpine terrain. Most parties take 4–5 hours from the Göscheneralp valley. The hut sits on a working alpine route between major peaks, so expect foot traffic in good weather.
The hut holds 70 beds across dormitory rooms. Meals are cooked on-site; dinner and breakfast are standard offerings. Water is available directly from the mountain source. The SAC (Swiss Alpine Club) maintains the hut to practical standards—expect solid mountain hospitality rather than luxury. The season runs from late spring through September, with weekends busy even into late summer. Winter mountaineers sometimes use it but facilities are minimal outside the main season.
Book by phone or email directly with the SAC. July and August demand booking 2–3 weeks in advance; weekends fill faster. Outside peak season, you usually have more flexibility.
