La Riposa

La Riposa sits at 2,185m in the Savoie Alps, accessed via the Parc National de la Vanoise. The approach takes 3–4 hours on foot from the valley. Most hikers start from Pralognan-la-Vanoise or Modane depending on their route. The trail is well-marked and moderate, gaining around 1,000m elevation. You can reach the hut as a day's walk from the road or link it into a multi-day traverse of the park.
The hut sleeps 40 across dormitory rooms and a handful of doubles. Meals are hearty: a three-course dinner and breakfast are standard, with packed lunches available to order. The kitchen supplies hot drinks, soup, and snacks throughout the day. The hut opens late June through early September, closing during the shoulder season when snow makes the approach unreliable. Water comes from a reliable spring nearby; toilets are basic but functional. There is no electricity or showers beyond a washroom with cold water.
Book directly by email or phone at least 4–6 weeks ahead for July and August. The hut fills quickly during school holidays and good-weather windows in summer. May your visit coincide with settled conditions—the exposed location above 2,000m means sudden cloud and wind are common even in peak season.
