Rifugio Tazzetti

Rifugio Tazzetti sits at 2,642m in the Savoie region of the French Alps, on the border with Italy. The hut serves as a base for routes in the Mont-Blanc massif and approaches to high peaks in the range. Access is typically from the Vallée de la Tarentaise; hiking time from the valley floor runs 3–4 hours depending on your starting point. The final approach crosses alpine meadows and rocky terrain with cairn markers. The hut is managed by CAI Chieri, the Italian Alpine Club's Chieri section, making it a crossing point for French and Italian mountaineers.
The rifugio accommodates 32 people in dormitory-style rooms. The guardian serves half-board meals (dinner and breakfast included with bed) using locally sourced ingredients when possible. No WiFi; bring paper maps and a compass. Water comes from a reliable spring. The hut opens June through September, depending on snow conditions—check before departing. The location exposes you to weather changes fast; be prepared for afternoon thunderstorms even in summer.
