Les Ailes du Nant

Les Ailes du Nant sits at 1,350m in the Vallée du Nant, a quiet tributary valley in Savoie. Reach it from the hamlet of Nant (accessible by car from Lanslevillard in the Maurienne valley) via a well-marked forest trail that takes 1.5 to 2 hours on foot. The approach follows the stream through beech and spruce woodland, gaining elevation gradually. Winter access depends on snow conditions and road maintenance to the Nant trailhead.
The refuge is a working bergerie (shepherd's shelter) and simple hikers' refuge run by FFCAM. It has 20 beds in dormitory rooms with basic but clean facilities. Meals focus on local mountain food—expect hearty soups, cheese, charcuterie, and simple prepared dishes. There is no hot shower, but washing facilities are available. The hut stays open from late spring through early autumn (typically May to September), though exact dates vary by year. Check with FFCAM before planning a winter visit. Most users treat it as a day-hike destination or overnight base for exploring the Vallée du Nant's quieter routes away from busier Parc National de la Vanoise crowds.
Book directly with the hut or through the FFCAM online system. July and August need a week's notice; shoulder season (May–June, September) is more flexible. The hut has no phone signal—email is your best option. Bring cash; card payment is not reliable. This is a mountain refuge, not a hotel—come prepared for rustic conditions and self-sufficiency.
