Refuge de la Femma

Refuge de la Femma sits at 2,352m in the Savoie Alps, accessible from the Parc National de la Vanoise. The approach from Pralognan-la-Vanoise takes 2.5 to 3 hours on a well-marked trail through alpine meadows and larch forest. The hut serves as a solid base for day hikes across the Vanoise massif and connects to multi-day traverses toward Refuge de Péclet-Polset. The elevation keeps you above most valley crowds without requiring technical climbing.
The refuge accommodates around 30 people in dormitory rooms. Dinner and breakfast are provided; the menu rotates between hearty pasta dishes, vegetable soups, and local cheese. The water comes from mountain springs. Opening runs mid-June through late September, with staffing dropping off by October. Winter access is possible by ski mountaineering but requires prior arrangement.
Book by late May for July and August weekends—the hut fills with families and hiking clubs. Contact the refuge directly by email or phone to confirm current rates and availability. Weekday visits in June or September offer quieter conditions and more reliable availability. Half-board is standard; full-board options exist for groups. The refuge sits near the GR55 long-distance trail, so expect through-hikers during peak season.
