Refuge de Vallonbrun

Refuge de Vallonbrun sits at 2,086m in the Tarentaise valley, east of Moûtiers in Savoie. Access is from the village of Naves via the Vallonbrun stream valley. The approach takes 2.5 to 3 hours on a well-marked trail through forest and alpine meadow, gaining 600m steadily. The hut is a good base for day walks in the surrounding peaks or as a stopping point on longer treks through the Parc National de la Vanoise.
The refuge is a small, family-run operation with capacity for around 30 people. Meals focus on hearty mountain food—expect good-value demi-pension (half-board) arrangements with dinner and breakfast included. Basic dorm beds and a few private rooms are available. The kitchen and dining area are functional rather than luxurious. The hut opens seasonally from June to September, weather permitting. Winter visits require prior contact to check conditions.
Email the hut directly to confirm availability and book your stay. In July and August, book at least 4 weeks ahead; June and September usually have more flexibility. The hut rarely turns away walkers with a reasonable approach, but confirming numbers in advance helps them prepare meals. If you arrive without a booking, call ahead from Moûtiers or Naves to check space. The nearest supply point is Naves, so arrive with adequate cash if paying on-site is your plan.
