Refuge de l'Écondu
2.6About
The refuge holds 50 people across dormitory-style rooms and a handful of smaller sleeping areas. Half-board is standard: expect a hot dinner and packed breakfast. The keeper runs a simple operation focused on hikers doing multi-day traverses along the Belledonne ridgeline. There's no WiFi, no electricity beyond basics, and no showers—this is mountain shelter, not hotel comfort. Water comes from the spring outside. The season runs from early June to late September, closing when snow blocks the approach.
Book by ringing directly: the refuge has no online system. July and August fill quickly, especially weekends. Call 2–3 weeks ahead for July; June and September are easier. The refuge lies within Parc National des Écrins jurisdiction. Confirm opening dates before you travel, as early or late snow can shift the season. Payment is cash only—bring euros.
