Refuge du Lachat

Refuge du Lachat sits at 2,077m in the Chaîne de Beaufortain, a limestone massif in eastern Savoie. The hut sits above the Vallée de l'Isère and makes a natural base for ridge walks and approaches to peaks across the range. Most parties approach from the north via the Nant Borrant valley (allow 3–4 hours from the roadhead near Beaufort). The GR55 passes nearby, so through-hikers often use it as a waypoint on longer Beaufortain traverses.
The refuge holds 50 beds across mixed dormitories. It serves evening meals and breakfast; bring a packed lunch or buy supplies in Beaufort before arriving. Water comes from a spring nearby. The hut opens mid-June to mid-September; snow often blocks access before late June. Check conditions with the guardian if you're arriving in June. The building is unheated, so summer nights are cold—bring a sleeping bag rated to at least 0°C.
Book directly by email or phone as soon as your dates are fixed. July and August weekends fill fast; contact the refuge 2–3 months ahead for these periods. Mid-week visits in June or September are quieter. The guardian lives on-site year-round but only opens the refuge for overnight stays during the season stated above. Day visits outside these dates are sometimes possible—ring ahead to ask.
