Rifugio Gian Federico Benevolo sits at 2,285m on the Italian side of the Mont-Blanc massif in Savoie, reached via the Val Ferret valley. From Courmayeur (1,300m), the approach takes roughly 3 hours on established paths through open terrain. The hut is accessible year-round but most practical from June to September when snow clears the lower sections and conditions allow comfortable walking. Winter approaches require mountaineering experience and proper equipment.
The rifugio holds 70 beds across multiple rooms and runs a full kitchen serving dinner and breakfast to residents. Showers are available—a genuine comfort at this elevation. The CAI (Club Alpino Italiano) and CAI Torino maintain the hut and stock it reliably. Use it as a base for Mont-Blanc approaches, traverses toward Gran Paradiso, or day walks through the Val Ferret basin. The hut serves both Italian and French mountaineers, so expect a mixed crowd with simple, functional hospitality rather than luxury.
Book by phone directly with the rifugio well ahead for July and August, when beds fill fast. June and September are quieter. The hut operates year-round but staff presence and food availability are reduced in winter months—confirm opening status before travelling outside summer season.
