Rothornhütte

Rothornhütte sits at 3,180m on the border between Valais and Uri in Switzerland. Most parties approach from the south via Gletsch and the Furka Pass, following the marked trail past Gletsch Glacier. The walk from Gletsch takes roughly 4 to 5 hours depending on snow conditions and your fitness. Alternative access from the north is possible but less common and involves longer approach times. Winter access is severely limited and requires winter mountaineering skills.
The hut has 54 beds across shared dormitory rooms. Staff serve meals at set times, though a small self-catering kitchen is available if you prefer to cook. Fresh water is reliable. The hut operates year-round but staff presence and meal availability drop dramatically outside the summer season (June to September). Winter visitors must contact the hut in advance to confirm staffing. Mobile coverage is poor to non-existent.
Book directly by email or phone at least 4 to 6 weeks ahead for July and August. Peak season fills quickly, especially weekends. May and September tend to have better availability. Winter parties must arrange everything in advance—do not assume facilities will be staffed. The hut manages itself; confirm what you need before arrival.
