Fritz-Putz-Hut

The Fritz-Putz-Hütte sits at 1185m in the Ammergau Alps, a short walk from the village of Unterammergau. Most hikers reach it in 1–1.5 hours from the village on well-marked trails through beech forest. The hut makes a natural base for day trips into the limestone peaks above, including routes to the Hochplötzl and surrounding ridges. The location puts you close to main access roads yet far enough into the hills to feel properly away.
The DAV-managed hut runs as a simple mountain lodge with beds for 30–40 people across shared dormitories. The kitchen serves hearty evening meals and breakfast. You'll find basic toilets, running water, and a small bar where hikers swap route advice. The hut opens year-round but sees heaviest use from May through October. Winter visits require prior arrangement. The hut keeper maintains the building and handles bookings.
Book directly by phone—this is a small hut and spots fill quickly during summer weekends and school holidays. Contact the DAV Sektion Füssen office to reserve beds. Weekdays in June and September offer the best chance of finding space without advance planning. July and August demand booking 4–6 weeks ahead. The hut is popular with families and local hiking clubs, so expect company on nice-weather weekends.
