Hochalphütte

The Hochalphütte sits at 1510m in the Ammergau Alps, a limestone range west of Oberammergau in Bavaria. You reach the hut on foot from Oberammergau village in around 2 hours via established hiking trails through beech and pine forest. The approach is steady rather than steep, making it accessible for most hill walkers. The location puts you within range of day walks across the Ammergau plateau and to nearby summits like the Hochalp.
The hut holds around 60 beds in a mix of dormitory and smaller rooms. The kitchen serves breakfast and evening meals, with packed lunches available for hikers heading out. Showers are available—useful after multi-day trips. Opening season runs from Easter through October, with variable weekend opening in shoulder months. The hut is a DAV facility, so members get discounted rates. Dinner, bed, and breakfast costs typically €45–55 per person depending on room type.
Book directly by email as soon as you have firm dates, especially for weekends in summer. July and August weekends fill 6–8 weeks ahead. Mid-week slots in June and September are usually more flexible. Email them with your group size, preferred dates, and any dietary requirements.
