Hörnlehütte

The Hörnlehütte sits at 1,390m in the Benediktenwand massif, south of Bad Tölz in the Bavarian Alps. Approach from the Benediktbeuern valley via the Rabenkopf route, a steady 2–2.5 hour climb. You can also reach it from Benediktbeuern village in roughly 3 hours on a well-marked trail. The hut is accessible year-round on foot, though snow may require winter experience January to March.

This DAV Sektion Starnberg refuge holds 24 beds across shared dormitories. The guardian serves evening meals and breakfast, with packed lunches available to order. The hut has a small kitchen for self-catering if you bring supplies. Water comes from a spring nearby. Basic heating and a wood stove keep the hut warm. It operates year-round, though staffing varies—check conditions before a winter visit. The hut lacks showers and electricity is limited to charging essentials at the guardian's discretion.

Book directly by phone with DAV Sektion Starnberg well in advance for July and August weekends. Expect heavy traffic from Benediktbeuern on summer Saturdays and Sundays. Spring and autumn are quieter and offer reliable conditions. Winter bookings require experience with snow travel and avalanche assessment. The hut fills quickly during the Benediktbeuern-Benediktenwand hiking circuit season, so don't delay.
