Kolbensattelhütte

Kolbensattelhütte sits at 1,276m in the Ammergau Alps, accessible from multiple directions. The most direct approach is from Unterammergau, heading toward the Kolbensattel pass. This route takes roughly 2 hours of steady hiking. You can also reach the hut from Linderhof to the west, a longer but scenic alternative. The location puts you on a main ridge trail linking several valleys, making it useful for multi-day traverses across the region.

The hut provides basic accommodation and meals year-round. Capacity is modest—expect a simple, welcoming atmosphere rather than a large facility. Flush toilets are available. There's no WiFi, which keeps the place quiet and focused on the landscape. The DAV operates this hut, so standards are consistent with other Alpine Club properties. Simple evening meals and breakfast are served. The elevation is low enough that weather can close access in rare winter conditions, but this hut remains more reliable than high-altitude alternatives.
