Brauneck-Gipfelhaus

Brauneck-Gipfelhaus sits at 1540m on the Brauneck summit in the Mangfall Mountains, southeast of Bad Tölz. The standard approach is from Brauneck cable car station at Wegscheid (860m). Most hikers ride the cable car up, then walk 30 minutes across open ridgeline to the hut. A direct hiking route climbs 2 hours 45 minutes from Elbach (700m) without the cable car. Both approaches cross exposed terrain in foul weather.
The hut is a DAV operation managed by Sektion Alpiner Ski-Club and holds 80 beds split across dormitory rooms. Half-board is standard: simple dinners and hearty breakfasts. Showers are available (usually charged). The building has solid Bavarian Alpine hut character—no frills, reliable food, and views across the Mangfall range. The hut opens year-round, though winter access depends on snow conditions and cable car operation. Self-catering is not permitted.
Phone the hut directly to book: they handle reservations by phone only. Weekends fill quickly March to October, particularly May and September when the ridge wildflower displays attract weekend crowds. Book at least 4 weeks ahead for summer Saturdays, and 8 weeks for July and August. Weekday visits face far less pressure. The hut fills far less in winter and early spring, though you should still call ahead.
