Enzian-Hut

The Enzian-Hütte sits at 1,533m in the Berchtesgaden Alps, above the Königssee valley. Reach it from Schönau am Königssee via the Archencanyon trail, which takes 2.5 to 3 hours of steady climbing through forest. The route is well-marked and merges with the Königsteig path higher up. The hut also connects to the longer Berchtesgaden circuit for multi-day tours through this eastern Bavarian range.
The DAV-run hut sleeps 40 guests in dormitory rooms and private doubles. The kitchen serves dinner, breakfast, and packed lunches. Water comes from the mountain spring. The hut opens May through October, with July and August as peak season. Winter closure means no services from November to April. Toilets and washrooms are basic mountain standard; showers are available but use is metered.
Book 8 weeks ahead for July and August weekends. Contact the hut directly by phone or email—they don't use the DAV online booking system. Arrive early if you're walking up the same day; the final push to the hut is steep and exposed in bad weather. The Enzian sits on the main hiking route to higher peaks like the Sagzahn, so expect company in fine weather.
