Probstalmhütte

Probstalmhütte sits at 1,376m in the Probstal valley, easily reached from the Benediktbeuren area. The hut serves as a base for hiking and mountaineering in the nearby limestone peaks of the Benedikt range. Access takes roughly 2 to 2.5 hours on foot from the valley floor via marked trails. The location works well for day trips to higher summits or as an overnight stop on longer ridge traverses through this quieter sector of the Bavarian Alps.

The DAV-managed hut provides 28 beds across simple shared rooms. Half-board and full-board meal options are available, with the kitchen offering hearty mountain fare. Flush toilets are standard. Note that the hut has no drinking water on-site and no shower facilities—plan accordingly. The hut typically opens from spring through autumn, though exact seasonal dates depend on staffing. Staff manage the hut part-time, so confirm opening hours before heading out.

Book by phone directly with the hut. Summer weekends and July fill quickly, so contact the hut at least 6 weeks ahead for those periods. Weekday visits and shoulder seasons (May, June, September, October) are easier to arrange on shorter notice. Arrive by mid-afternoon to secure your place and eat with the main group. The hut does not accept online bookings, so a phone call in German or English is necessary.
