Kelheimer Hut

Kelheimer Hütte sits at 1,757m in the Benediktenwand range southeast of Bad Tölz. Reach it from the village of Benediktbeuren via the Loisach valley. The standard approach takes 3 hours, gaining 800m through forest and alpine meadow. An alternative route from Sachsenkam adds another hour but avoids the steepest sections. The hut serves as a base for ascents of Benediktenwand (1,801m) and traverses toward the Benediktenwand-Kamm ridge.
Kelheimer Hütte accommodates around 80 guests in mixed dorm rooms and a few double rooms. Half-board and camping are available. The hut serves substantial evening meals and a full breakfast. Facilities include a small bar, dining room, flush toilets, showers, and drinking water sourced from the mountain. The custodian (Hüttenwirt) usually opens from May through October, though exact dates vary. Winter access depends on snow conditions and advance notice.
Book directly with the hut by phone or email during the season. Weekends fill quickly from June through September—reserve at least 6 weeks ahead for peak periods. The hut sits close enough to Munich and Bad Tölz to attract weekend hikers, so midweek offers better availability. The hut is affiliated with the DAV and offers modest discounts for German Alpine Club members. Access the hut road by car only if you are a resident or have specific permission.
