Kirchsteinhütte

Kirchsteinhütte sits at 1,050m in the Bavarian Alps near Mittenwald, on the border between Bavaria and Tyrol. The hut is a 90-minute walk from Mittenwald town center via the Loisach valley trail, making it accessible to hikers of all levels. You can also approach from the Scharnitzpass side. The location works well as a base for day walks into the surrounding limestone peaks or as a rest stop on longer valley treks.

The hut is a simple, traditional operation with around 50 beds across shared rooms. Meals focus on hearty Bavarian fare—expect schnitzel, käsespätzle, and seasonal specials. The kitchen serves breakfast and dinner; packed lunches available on request. Basic facilities include washrooms with cold water only and pit toilets—this is backcountry accommodation, not a resort. The hut operates year-round but gets quieter November through March. Staff speak German primarily, though many understand English.

Book well ahead for summer weekends and school holidays. July and August fill 6–8 weeks in advance.
