Rotwandhaus

Rotwandhaus sits at 1737m on the Rotwand in the Mangfall range southeast of Bad Tölz. Reach it via the Nördliche Kaltwasseralm from Fischbachau (roughly 2.5 hours) or from Baierbrunn on the eastern approach (around 3 hours). The hut is also accessible from the Wildenalptal. Trails here connect to the Schrofen ridge and link to other DAV huts across the range.

The hut has 60 beds split across multiple rooms. Half-board is standard—dinner and breakfast included. The kitchen serves traditional Bavarian fare and accommodates dietary requests if notified in advance. Facilities include a sat-phone for emergencies (no WiFi). The hut runs year-round, though winter access depends on snow and avalanche conditions. Booking through the managing section, DAV Sektion Turner-Alpen-Kränzchen, is essential, especially for weekends and July–August.

Contact the hut by phone to check availability and book. Summer weekends fill weeks in advance. June through September is peak season; book 4–6 weeks ahead for July and August. Shoulder months (May and September) offer better availability. The hut operates on a first-come, first-served basis by phone, so call early in the week rather than Friday.
