Schneelahner Hut

Schneelahner Hütte sits at 970m in the foothills south of Munich, within the Grafing section territory of the Bavarian Alps. Reach it from Schliersee on foot—the hut lies on established hiking routes through accessible forest terrain. The approach takes 1.5 to 2 hours depending on your starting point. This elevation makes it a solid day-hike destination rather than a high-alpine refuge, though it serves as a base for exploring the surrounding Mangfall range.
The hut offers basic mountain hospitality. It has sleeping capacity for around 50 guests in mixed dormitories. The DAV-managed kitchen serves traditional Bavarian fare at lunch and dinner; book meals when you reserve your bed. Showers and toilets are available. There's no WiFi—bring a book or expect actual downtime. The hut runs year-round, though phone ahead in winter as staffing varies. Hiking dominates the activity schedule here; the terrain suits everything from casual family outings to fitness-building ridge walks.
Contact the Grafing section directly via email to reserve beds. Summer weekends (June through September) fill quickly, especially around school holidays—aim to book 4 to 6 weeks ahead for peak dates. Weekdays see far fewer visitors. The hut welcomes both DAV members and non-members, though members get priority booking and slightly lower rates. Self-catering is not an option; you're eating what the kitchen provides or bringing packed lunch.
