Sunnseithütte

Sunnseithütte sits at 1,679m on the eastern edge of the Benediktenwand massif, roughly 90 minutes' walk from Benediktbeuren village. The approach is straightforward: hike the Loisach valley from Benediktbeuren, passing through mixed forest and meadow. The final push gains 400m elevation over rough terrain. In winter, snow closes most access routes, so plan visits May through October. Summer weekends bring crowds from Munich, which sits 50km north.

The hut holds 60 beds across several rooms, with a mix of dormitories and smaller chambers. Meals focus on Bavarian standards—schnitzel, roasted meats, cheese noodles. The kitchen serves breakfast from 7am and dinner from 6pm; half-board packages suit hikers planning multi-day traverses. No shower, but cold water is available. The hut is unguarded in winter; contact the keeper before November to arrange access. Solar panels provide modest electricity; expect basic creature comforts. The DAV manages the hut, so membership discounts apply.

Book by email at least 3 weeks ahead for July and August weekends. Phone calls work for shorter notice. The hut fills completely on good-weather Saturdays in summer; weekday visits offer reliable space. Rates run roughly €18–24 per bed, with meals €10–15 each. Payment is cash only—bring euros. Descent to Benediktbeuren takes 75 minutes; the reverse route is relentless but doable as a day walk from the village if you start before 6am.
