Kampenwandhütte

Kampenwandhütte sits at 1510m on the northern flank of the Chiemgau Alps, above the village of Sachrang. The hut anchors routes into the Kampenwand massif and serves as a base for traverses across this region. Reach it from Sachrang (roughly 2.5 hours on foot) or via the Frasdorf approach. The location puts you between gentler forested slopes and steeper limestone terrain above—useful if you're working toward the Hochries or planning multi-day ridge walks.
The hut holds around 80 beds across mixed dorm and private rooms. DAV members get the member rate; non-members pay a surcharge. Kitchen staff cook traditional Bavarian fare—expect hearty soups, schnitzel, and local cheese. The hut operates year-round, though winter access depends on snow conditions and daylight. Basic facilities include toilets, showers, and a boot-drying room. Water comes from the spring on-site.
Book directly with the hut 3–4 weeks ahead for summer weekends and holidays. Spring and autumn Saturdays fill quickly with Munich-based hikers. The DAV Sektion München und Oberland manages the property, so DAV members should cite membership when booking. Phone ahead in winter to confirm staffing and conditions. Bring cash—card payment isn't always reliable in the mountains.
