Stripsenjochhaus

Stripsenjochhaus sits at 1602m on the Stripsenjoch pass in the Chiemgau Alps, between the Hochplatte and Hochries massifs. Reach it from Reit im Winkl on the Austrian border: the standard route climbs 800m in 3-4 hours via the Wörner Alm. From Marquartstein to the north, allow 2.5-3 hours. Both paths are well-marked. In winter, the approach becomes serious; check conditions before attempting.
The hut holds 30 beds in mixed dormitories and has flush toilets. Staff serve hot meals at lunch and dinner; bring enough cash. There's no electricity, heating, or WiFi—come prepared for basic mountain conditions. The hut opens year-round but staffing is limited November to March; contact ahead if planning winter visits. It's a working hut, not a resort, so expect straightforward hospitality and a focus on self-reliance. The location works well as a base for ridge traverses across the northern Chiemgau or as a waypoint on longer routes toward Kampenwand and Hochries.
