Hochlandhütte

The Hochlandhütte sits at 1,630m on the northern flank of the Wetterstein, well-placed for routes into the Arnspitze and Hochland plateau. Access from Mittenwald or Krün takes 2–2.5 hours on foot, gaining around 650m steadily through mixed forest. The hut is reachable year-round via marked trails, though snow conditions make winter approaches slower. A small parking area near the valley trailhead serves both routes.
The hut manages 41 beds across simple shared rooms. Meals focus on traditional Bavarian fare—expect hearty soups, stews, and schnitzel rather than refinement. The kitchen operates daily during the season, and you can order packed lunches for onward hikes. There's no shower facility, only wash basins; bring a cloth. The Hochlandhütte stays open spring through autumn (typically April to October), closing during heavy winter snow. It's a working hut for climbers tackling the Wetterstein's limestone peaks, not a resort.
Book directly by phone with DAV Sektion Hochland well ahead for July and August weekends—these fill 6–8 weeks out. Weekday slots are easier to secure. Arrive early afternoon if you're walking in the same day; the kitchen closes by 9pm. The hut accepts cash and bank transfer; confirm payment methods when you call.
