Bregarjevo Shelter

Bregarjevo Zavetišče sits at 1,620m in the Julian Alps of northeastern Friuli Venezia Giulia, on the border between Italy and Slovenia. Approach it from the village ofTime via the marked trail to Bregarjevo—allow 2 hours from the trailhead. The hut works as a base for day hikes into the surrounding limestone peaks and as a waypoint on longer ridge traverses in this less-crowded corner of the range.

The shelter sleeps 14 in basic dormitory arrangement. This is a mountain refuge, not a hotel: expect simple bunks and shared facilities. The guardian provides meals and drinks during the season. Water comes from a reliable spring. The hut opens year-round but staffing depends on weather and demand, so conditions vary widely between summer (June–September) and winter months.

Call ahead before visiting, especially outside peak season. Staff speak Italian and Slovenian; English may be limited. The hut has no website, so phone contact is essential to confirm opening status and arrange meals. Summer weekends (July–August) fill quickly.
