Casera Meluzzo

Casera Meluzzo sits at 1,181m on the eastern slopes of the Carnic Alps, accessible from the village of Forni di Sopra in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region. Reach it in 2.5 hours on foot from Forni di Sopra via a well-marked trail through beech forest and alpine pasture. The approach is straightforward and gains elevation gradually, making it suitable for hikers planning multi-day traverses across the Carnic watershed. Most parties use it as a base for accessing higher peaks in the range or as a transit point on longer ridge walks.
The rifugio operates year-round and sleeps around 40 guests in basic dormitory rooms. Meals focus on traditional mountain food: soups, polenta, local cheeses, and hearty mains. Half-board rates are standard. The hut has running water, simple heating, and a small common room. Shower facilities are limited. The location works well for summer hiking and early autumn mountaineering; winter access depends on snow conditions. Expect quiet periods outside July and August.
Book directly with the hut by phone or email at least 3–4 weeks ahead for weekend visits. July and August fill quickly, particularly on Saturdays. The hut prefers advance payment for meal reservations. Confirm opening dates in late spring if planning a winter or early-season visit, as staffing varies.
