Alpine Dairy Cuvii

Malga Cuvii sits at 776m in the limestone hills of Friuli Venezia Giulia, above the Val Tramontana near Prepotto. You reach it on foot from Prepotto village (about 2 hours) or from Rampezzo via the Sentiero dei Tre Rifugi (3.5 hours). The approach is steady woodland hiking through beech forest; the terrain is straightforward.

This is a working dairy farm and mountain shelter combined. The hut operates year-round and serves as a base for day walks into the Prealpi Giulie and access to higher rifugi like Casera Ciampôl. You'll find basic bunk accommodation and simple meals centered on local produce—particularly the dairy's own cheese and milk products. The kitchen is functional rather than fancy. Staff speak Italian; English is limited. The hut accommodates around 20 people.

Weekend traffic from the Friuli lowlands is steady year-round. This is not a high-altitude hut—it functions as a genuine working malga where you'll see cattle and meet farmers.
