Refuge Locanda al Convento

Rifugio Locanda al Convento sits at 800m in the Julian Alps of Friuli Venezia Giulia, accessible from the Predil Pass area. Reach it via a 2-hour hike from Tarvisio or from the Resia Valley approach. The hut works as a base for routes into the Predil limestone peaks and the Kanin plateau. Trails branch to nearby peaks and ridge walks that reward you with views across to Slovenia.

The rifugio offers 20 beds split between simple private rooms and dormitory space. They serve full meals including regional specialities—expect hearty mountain cooking rather than fine dining. The kitchen operates daily during the hiking season. Basic facilities include hot showers and a small dining room with a wood stove. The hut stays open year-round, though winter staffing depends on demand, so confirm ahead. Half-board is the standard arrangement.
