Refuge Monte Lussari

Rifugio Monte Lussari sits at 1,595m on the summit plateau of Monte Lussari, in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region near the Slovenian border. The main approach climbs 750m from Prosseco in 3 hours via a well-marked trail through beech forest and Alpine meadows. A cable car runs from Prosseco to the summit (15 minutes) for those who want to skip the ascent. Most hikers arriving on foot reach the hut by early afternoon and continue hiking the ridge trails connecting to other peaks in the Lussari massif.

The hut operates year-round and accommodates 50 guests in mixed dormitories. Meals focus on regional cuisine—expect hearty pasta, local meats, and strong coffee. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The building has limited shower facilities and no Wi-Fi. Tap water is reliable. The location means weather changes fast; wind and fog are common even in summer.

Book directly by phone, especially for July and August weekends. Phone ahead if you're planning to arrive late or need a packed lunch for an early start. Winter opening depends on snow conditions and staffing; confirm availability before the season. The hut is staffed year-round but sometimes closes briefly for maintenance in May and November.
