About

Rifugio Cabanne sits at 1,738m on the Ligurian watershed between the Aveto and Graveglia valleys. Reach it from Borzonasca by heading northeast toward Passo della Forcella. The approach takes 3–4 hours on foot via waymarked trails. You can also access it from the Aveto valley to the east. The hut marks a key point on ridge-walking routes that extend north toward the Apennine high country.

The rifugio is a working mountain base rather than a luxury halt. It offers 25 beds in shared rooms, meals prepared by the managing AVMM (Associazione Viatori Monti e Mari), and basic facilities including a dining room and sleeping quarters. Water comes from a spring. Winter access is limited; the hut operates reliably from May through October. Half and full board are available. This is a good staging point for traverses across the Ligurian Apennines or for climbs into the surrounding peaks.

Book by phone directly with the hut. July and August weekends fill weeks ahead. June and September offer better availability for solo hikers or small groups. Confirm opening dates before arriving in May or late October. The hut has no website, so a phone call is your only booking option.

Frequently Asked Questions

Book 2–3 weeks ahead for weekends and peak season (July–September); weekdays have more flexibility. Contact the hut directly by phone or check rifugio.net and cai.it for availability and booking options.
Typically open June through September as a staffed rifugio; confirm exact dates with the hut directly, as Alpine huts often adjust for weather and demand.
From Borzonasca, head northeast toward Passo della Forcella on waymarked trails for 3–4 hours; you can also approach from the Aveto valley to the east via longer ridge routes.
It has 25 beds in shared rooms and serves meals; hot showers and basic amenities are available, though this is a working mountain base rather than a comfort hut.
It works for fit hikers and mountaineers comfortable with 3–4 hour approaches and ridge walking; the 1,738m altitude and Apennine ridge terrain suit experienced walkers more than families with young children.
