Refuge Monte Caucaso

Rifugio Monte Caucaso sits at 1,701m in the Liguria Apennines, roughly 15km inland from the Ligurian coast. The standard approach is from Passo del Turchino (1,040m), a 3-hour hike northeastward through beech forest. You can also approach from Montebruno to the east in 2.5 hours. The hut works as a hub for ridge walking along the high Ligurian watershed.

The rifugio holds 50 people across mixed dorm and private rooms. It serves hot meals at dinner and packed lunches on request. The kitchen runs year-round, though staffing is lighter outside summer. Water comes from a spring; heating is available in winter. The hut opens spring through autumn with occasional winter weekends depending on snow and staffing.

Book by phone directly with the rifugio. July and August fill 4–6 weeks ahead. May, June, and September are moderately busy but still take walk-ups on weekdays. Winter visits require advance notice to confirm staffing. The hut sits just outside the CAI network but maintains good links with local hiking groups; ask about current conditions and trail maintenance when you call.
