Refuge Treggin Roccagrande

Rifugio Treggin Roccagrande sits at 1,535m on the Ligurian ridge between Monte Saccarello and Monte Frontè. Reach it on foot from Monesi di Triora (1,000m) via a 2.5-hour approach that climbs steadily through beech forest and open pasture. The final section crosses alpine meadow with views south toward the Mediterranean. Most hikers arrive from the west via the GTA (Grande Traversata delle Alpi) or from Piemonte via Monte Saccarello.

The rifugio operates year-round and accommodates 20 people in basic dormitory rooms. Meals are simple and substantial—pasta, polenta, local cheese, and cured meats. The kitchen provides hot water for tea and instant food. No shower. Toilets are basic but functional. This is a working mountain hut, not a hotel. Staff are friendly but expect to muck in. Cell reception is unreliable.

Call ahead to confirm you're coming, especially outside high season (July–September). Book directly by phone rather than through online platforms—the hut operates independently. Weekend and mid-summer visits fill quickly; aim for weekdays or shoulder season. Arrive by early afternoon to help the staff with evening meal preparation. Cash preferred, though card payment may be possible.
