About

Alpina Hütte sits at 2,557m on the border between Lombardy and the Veneto, in the Bergamasque Alps. Reach it from Carona (1,200m) in Val Brembana via the Passo di Prestone in 4.5 hours. The route climbs steadily through forest and alpine meadows. From Prestone itself (2,140m) the final push takes 2 hours and is steeper. You can also approach from the Veneto side via Passo Gherla in 4 hours. The hut makes a natural rest point on longer crossings of this range, or a base for day walks on the surrounding peaks.

The hut manages 30 beds in shared dorms. Meals are served at lunch and dinner. The kitchen prepares standard mountain food—pasta, polenta, local cheese. Water comes from a spring and electricity from solar panels and generator. Showers are cold. The hut operates year-round but is quietest November to March, when staffing may be limited. Book ahead to confirm opening if visiting in winter. Camping outside is not permitted.

Book directly with the hut by phone or email. July and August fill fast—aim for May or June booking. Contact details are available through the CAI (Club Alpino Italiano). The hut accepts cash and basic card payments. No reservations made online; you must phone or email. Arrival by 17:00 is expected for dinner service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Book 2–3 weeks ahead for weekends and July–August; weekdays are more flexible. Contact the hut directly by phone or email, or use rifugio.net and cai.it, which cover most Bergamasque Alps huts.
Typically open June through September, with July–August fully staffed; shoulder months may have reduced hours, so confirm ahead.
From Carona in Val Brembana (1,200m), allow 4.5 hours via Passo di Prestone; the final 2 hours from the pass at 2,140m are steep. Alternatively, approach from the Veneto side via Passo Gherla in 4 hours.
Expect dorm beds, simple meals (breakfast and dinner), and basic bathrooms with cold water; no shower or hot water is standard at this altitude.
It's suitable for fit hikers with mountain experience; the 4.5-hour ascent and steep final section make it challenging for young children or inexperienced walkers, though families comfortable with moderate alpine terrain will manage it.
