About
Chamanna Jenatsch sits at 2,652m in the Bergamasc Alps, the eastern extension of the Orobie range that dominates western Lombardy. The hut sits on the Sissone plateau, between Val Seriana and Val di Scalve. Most hikers approach from Rifugio Benigni (2,265m) via Passo della Rossa in 3–4 hours, or from Passo del Gembro in the south. The walk is steep and exposed once you're above tree line.
The hut holds 73 beds across multiple rooms and serves full meals in its dining area. A self-catering kitchen is available if you bring your own food. Water comes from a reliable mountain spring. The refuge operates year-round but is quietest October to April. Toilets are basic mountain standards. The setting draws hikers tackling multi-day traverses across the Orobie or making summit attempts on peaks like Pizzo Camanon nearby.
Book direct by email or phone (details available through the CAS club directory). July and August require booking 2–3 months ahead. June and September fill steadily from May onward. Weekends year-round are busy. The hut sits on a working hiking route with regular through-traffic, so cancellations do happen—call back mid-week if rejected first time. Half-board (bed and dinner) works out cheaper than bed-only plus à la carte meals. Cash and card are both accepted.
