Baita del Sole

Baita del Sole sits at 2,050m in the Bergamasque Alps, above the Val Brembana valley in Lombardy. Reach it from Piazza Brembana by hiking 2.5–3 hours up the Val del Riso. The trail is steady and well-marked, gaining 700m elevation. You can also approach from Lizzola via a longer 4-hour route. Both paths converge on open alpine pasture with views toward the Presolana massif.

The hut offers 50 beds in simple rooms and dorms. The kitchen serves hearty mountain food: polenta, risotto, local cheese and cured meats. Most guests eat the evening meal and breakfast; half-board is standard. Water comes from a spring. The hut runs from mid-May through September, closing in winter. Facilities are basic but clean—no electricity, no showers, composting toilet. This is genuinely quiet terrain: few day-trippers, more serious walkers linking hut-to-hut routes through the Bergamasque high pastures.

Book direct by phone or email at least 2 weeks ahead, especially for summer weekends and July. Contact details are available through CAI (Club Alpino Italiano). August fills fastest. The hut suits hikers doing multi-day loops across the Presolana region or those walking the high valley traverses. Bring a headtorch.
