Refuge Barchi

Rifugio Barchi sits at 1,710m in the Lombardy Alps, accessible via the Val Camonica approach. Most hikers reach the hut in 3–4 hours from the roadhead at Ponte di Legno. The trail climbs steadily through mixed forest and alpine meadow, gaining roughly 700m. The hut works well as a base for day walks across the surrounding plateaux or as a waypoint on longer valley traverses.

The rifugio has 40 beds split across simple rooms. Half-board (dinner and breakfast) is standard; packed lunches available on request. The kitchen serves straightforward mountain food—pasta, polenta, local cheeses, grilled meats. Water comes from a spring behind the hut. The building has no shower, but there's a washroom with hot water. The hut runs from June through September, closing in winter. Mobile signal is weak but present.

Book directly by phone or email at least 4 weeks ahead if you're arriving July–August. Weekends fill quickly during school holidays (mid-July to late August). The hut is quieter in June and September, when you can often arrive without advance notice. Email response can be slow; calling works faster. Payment is cash only—bring euros and settle your bill on departure.
