About
Rifugio Codera sits at 1,496m in the Val Codera, a deep valley in the Bergamasque Alps above Mezzoldo, Lombardy. Reach it on foot only: the valley has no road access. From Mezzoldo (600m), the trail climbs steeply through woodland for 3 hours, gaining 900m. The path is well-marked but relentless. In winter the approach becomes serious mountaineering terrain. Most hikers arrive from Lecco via the Passo di Ganda or from the Valsassina side.
The rifugio offers 50 beds across simple dormitories and a few double rooms. Half-board is standard: strong mountain cooking, reliable water supply, basic shower facilities. The hut sits above the tree line but shelters in a rocky amphitheatre. Winters are harsh—the hut closes November through April. Summer crowds peak in July and August when weekends fill fast. Spring and autumn give you the valley nearly to yourself.
Book direct by phone or email. Contact details are listed on cai.it (the hut is CAI-managed). Call at least two weeks ahead for weekends; six weeks ahead for July. Weekday visits outside peak season rarely need advance notice. Bring cash—card payments are unreliable at this elevation.
