Refuge Santa Maria di Misma

Rifugio Santa Maria di Misma sits at 1,950m in the Orobie Alps east of Bergamo. The hut is a 3-hour walk from Mezzoldo village (900m), following the Val di Misma. Most hikers approach via the path that climbs steeply through beech forest, then opens to alpine meadow. The final section traverses high pasture with views toward the Presolana massif.

The refuge holds 40 beds in mixed and family rooms. Meals focus on Lombardy mountain cooking: polenta, casunziei, hearty soups, and local cheese. The kitchen provides packed lunches for onward routes. Water comes from the spring above the hut. There are basic shower facilities. The hut operates June through September, and weekends only in shoulder months—check before visiting in spring or autumn.

Book by phone directly with the guardians. July and August weekends fill 4–6 weeks ahead. Mid-week visits in July and August usually have availability with 1–2 weeks' notice. The hut sits on the high-altitude CAI trails linking the Val Brembana to the Presolana, so expect steady foot traffic during peak season. Confirm opening dates before your trip.
