Refuge Luigi Gianetti

Rifugio Luigi Gianetti sits at 2,534m in the Bergamasque Alps, on the ridge between Val Brembana and Val Seriana in Lombardy. The standard approach is 2.5 hours from Carona (1,400m), climbing steadily north on well-marked trails through meadow and scree. In winter, access is often blocked by snow; check conditions before planning a visit outside June to September.

The hut sleeps 78 across dormitory rooms. Meals focus on traditional mountain food—the kitchen serves dinner and breakfast to guests, with packed lunches available for onward treks. Water comes from an Alpine spring. The refuge has no electricity from the mains; solar panels and a small generator cover essential needs. Toilets are basic but functional. The hut operates year-round in theory, but reliably staffed only June to September and weekends in shoulder months. Phone ahead before visiting outside summer.

June and September are quieter but still popular with ridge walkers. The CAI Milano section manages the refuge; members get priority booking and a small discount.
